Col Pays P40 - The photos are here!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone I am just back from a mad 1200 mile round trip to take photos of Col Pays new P40 at Scone NSW.

It flew last saturday 11 Dec with Col's former Spitfire based now at Temora - this has signifigance in as much as both aircraft are finished in the colors of Bobby Gibbs - a famous WW11 Australian ace who was able to attend on the day and has signed the P40 next to the accurate noseart.

There were no major snags and the P40 is due to participate for many years to come at airshows around the country- it looks great. I am surprised at the shade of blue undersurfaces but the colors were researched with the AWM and Bobby says they are right so who am I to argue.

Here are a random sample of the shots I took.

I also have formation in flight shots with the spit which I will post
tomorrow

Kindest regards
John P

Hi Lynn

No this one came over unrestored but was a genuine ex Kiwi aircraft - a pity it isn't in kiwi colors but is nice the way it is.

Regards
John P

John,

Did Col mention whether or not the P40 was scheduled to go to Avalon in March? It would make a brilliant addition to the line-up. The Wangaratta Warhawk is a decent beast but it doesn't have the colour of this one. Do you think that this one will end up at Temora as well?

Hi Walrus

I was one of the last passengers to ever fly on a Walrus - just before it crash landed and eventually wound up at Hendon- silly fact but there you are.

to answer your questions

1) no he didn't mention it but it would be on the cards- especially if they pay the costs (fuel , accomodation etc)

2) No I think this P40 will stay in the Pay family for quite a while - Col certainly expects to keep her there.

Kindest regards
John P

Hi Jase

The 12 A flew out of Wangarratta two weeks ago - very noisily apparently ! so she is now an up and running machine again after all these years - I will put the pics up tonight.

Regards John P
