As I know US has used helicopters during the late WW2. But source of this image is not known to me. Everything is possible, from Pacific to Korea.

Piasecki HRP-1

The image is Korean war vintage if I remember correctly- I have seen these before, but can't think of the manufacturer... They are very early, but later than WWII.

Mystery Helicopter

The helicopter you illustrate is the Piaseki HRP-1 and was the foreunner to the H-21 Flying Banana. A total of 22 were procured by the USMC and all were assigned to HMX-1 at MCAS Quantico. They were never used operationally but purely in a developmental role. Note fabric covered fuselage. The USMC did procure a token few of the H-21's for evaluation and were designated as the HRP-2.
