Can anyone advise as to if any IJN aircraft carried green crosses instead of the usual "meatball" markings? What did it mean?
Any help appreciated.

The crosses were applied after the surrender, normally to those aircraft that would still be flying, to ferry prisoners or surrender delegations etc.

Also fighters, the Zero now on display at the Auckland War Memorial was captured in some out of the way place, but was flown by a Japanese pilot to one of the main airfields after being painted white with the green crosses and escorted by Allied fighters. The whole idea was that it wasn't attacked by some trigger happy fighter jock.
