Warbirds and runway lengths

In light of the discussions regarding wheel or 3-point landings, what length runways are you comfortable with operating various warbirds on. Do you have a personal minimum length? It would be interesting to hear about grass vs. paved also.

Back in the mid 80's or so I watched Pete Regina land at Fullerton CA (KFUL-3100'- paved) in Shangri-la. He made a low dirty pass and then came around and landed. He remarked to me that it was actually easier and he needed less runway than he thought.

Considering various gross weights and density altitude and an over the fence speed of around 120, I've been comfortable with the Mustang at around 2000 feet hard surface or grass.
Those barn doors and the wide stance were nice!!!!

Wet grass can get interesting however on a short strip!

I never needed more than 1000 ft myself

Its all about the right approach speed and having a head wind helps...
