C-47 in the Texas Hill Country

Sat Jul 19, 2008 5:42 pm

One of the guys at our airport asked me about a C-47 he saw flying around the Hill Country a few days ago. He said it was OD and had Invasion Stripes (what else) so it wasn't a freight dog. As we are still about three months out on getting ours flying, I told him I had no idea whose it might have been. Was Cavanaughs plane this far South lately? Doug?

Hey - I've looked all over the airport and can't find "ours" -- where is it?

Being new to the airport you don't know about the underground bunkers and other hiding places. What do you think I've been building all those big hangars for. Soon there will be all kinds of warbirds around 5c1.

Cavanaugh's was stuffed firmly next to the Corsair and TBM at the museum yesterday (and presumably today as well). They brought it up from the Collins hangars after the B-24 left on Thursday.

I wonder if my friend who's been there a relatively long time knows about those either... It'd be seriously cool if more warbirds started showing up around town.

Ober,

Probably was the the Cavanaugh C47, since she was "down south" last week on a "family outing".

Kinda what I figured, maybe soon we will have another one in the air.

At the Summer Staff Conference someone mentioned having a "new" C-47 flying in Central Texas. I caught the end of it, but it was something in the area of "our new C-47 flew a couple of days ago", but again, I only caught the end of it.

Not yet, but getting there.

Saw it last weekend heading east down the VFR corridor in Houston.

Interestingly, the previous weekend I saw a turboprop-conversion DC-3 heading east down the corridor.
