Are you sure that drawing is not a Lockheed Ventura? If it is the picture I am thinking of, it should have an upper turret and a ventral gun position as well. Aircraft approching from left, destroyer steaming right-to-left?.....yep, PV-1. Fanciful for sure but never happened, picture was an illustration for the Erection and Maintenance manual.

They did make 2 prototypes of an oversize Model 18 called the XA-38 Grizzly Beech Model 28...Beech says it was not based on the 18). It was twin-tailled and powered by a pair of Wright 3350s (2300 hp). It would have been armed with a 75 mm cannon with torpedoes as an alternate weapon.

Basically, it looks like a narrow B-25.

The Dutch used modified Lockheed Electra's or Jr's has light bombers during the campaign in Java and the dutch East Indies early 1942. Could this be the subject of your photo?

Yep.....PV-1 Ventura. I've never seen that one before though! Can you scan it or take a fully cropped photo of it and email it to me? I'd like to include it in our historical archives. What is the story behind it?

The XA-38 was built right here in Wichita. It had 2 20mm cannons in the nose, 1 75mm cannon in the nose, and 2 turrets w/20mm cannons in the tail (top and bottom). If you look at other pics, you will see that the only thing like a '18 is the tail and wings. It looks nothing like a B-25.
