SBD 10715 History?

Wed Dec 29, 2004 11:31 pm

Anybody in the community have any photos of this bird? I am going through my old MAPS photos and I ran across a poorly exposed shot of this airplane. I was wondering what became of it.

Thanks

Jim,

Good question. This was the third MAPS SBD. I think Rob may have the history backwards. It was at MAPS till 1991 or so, and my understanding is that it went to David Price/MOF. After that, I have no idea. I've always wondered where it got to. There was an old Flypast article on the recovery.

The A-24B s/n 42-54654 is off to Pima and the mystery SBD/A-24 is staying at MAPS (for now).

It was sitting on a flatbed for along time in the museum building. The original paint was still in great shape but it was full of silt. The wings were kept at Maps for patterns/restoration. It kind of fell off the earth after that.
