Desert Harvard Markings

Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:56 pm

There seems to be a number of restored Harvards in RAF desert schemes and am wondering where they got the information regarding the markings.

I do know that in 1942 239 Wing (3 & 450 Sqn RAAF and 112 & 250 Sqn RAF) in Egypt was assigned three Harvards (AJ944, AJ844 and AJ845) that were supposed to have been painted in midstone/light earth/azure blue. I am looking for clear photos of these 3 machines (or any other desert camouflaged Harvards) showing the camouflage patterns and markings.

So far I found this: (at http://www.mts.net/~royb/112_photos_page_4.html)

but it clearly doesn't help much (and in fact looks like yellow, taken with orthochromatic film to me - note the lightness of the blue in the roundel and the darkness of the red, and the dark overall colour).

Thanks,
