This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hi all,
Bob Jens' DeHavilland Mosquito restoration made a rare and brief appearance yesterday as the crew rolled it out of the hangar to check something with the main gear. I wasn't able to get any pictures because of the brevity of the rollout, but the restoration appears to be coming along very nicely. Both engines are hung on the mounts, minus props. The vertical fin was lacking a rudder, but elevators were in place on both horizontals, and both wings had ailerons and flaps attached. Cockpit glass looked fairly complete minus the nose bubble. Also, bomb-bay doors looked to be on in the closed position. Thus far the airplane sports an overall silver finish, not sure of this is just primer or actual paint. Hope to see this beauty taking to the skies in the near future.

Wow..tks for the update...
Both engines are hung on the mounts
Good news; as of 4 years ago when I last saw it. the props where done & the engine where soon in the queue.
and both wings had ailerons and flaps attached
And all of these where being re-manufactured by a local carpenter
Cockpit glass looked fairly complete minus the nose bubble
All of it was on the bird back then
bomb-bay doors looked to be on in the closed position
That was one of B J concern. The installation of the camera by Spartan had the rear portion of the fuse cut out from under. There was "some" semi serious woodwork to be done in that area before the bomb bay doors could be re-installed.
airplane sports an overall silver finish,
Same finish. I think ( Just a guess ) VR796 had this added when the AC woodwork was reccovered by the Zaleski's before being sold.

I took a close look at the restoration a couple of weeks ago when James Kightly and I were down there. I've got a bunch of pictures. I just need to find the time to put them into photobucket and post them on here.

Anybody keeping an eye on Jerry Yagens (Fighter Factory) Mosquito? The crew at AVSPECS just fitted the wings to the fuselage. A ways to go but coming along nicely.
Any other Mosquitos out there undergoing restoration?

There's the Mosquito being built up by the CH2A at Windsor, Ontario. I heard the plan is to restore that one to taxiable condtion. They are using the first of Glyn Powell's fuselages from New Zealand and combining that with parts they recovered from a Mosquito wreck.

Tanks for the picture, Davey
Juste a question: the major part of the wing is in wood, but is there only the leading edge to be in aluminium ? or there are other parts ?
Regards

It's not often you get to see the back of your own head!

Your English is fine.

The Mosquito's
entire wing is made of wood, as is the spar. (The wing is a single piece excluding the tips, and runs through the fuselage centre.) There is a combined engine and undercarriage mounting, made of metal tubing, which hangs off the wooden spars. The inner wing leading edges contain the (metal) engine radiators, and these are covered by non structural metal fairings on the underside. The wing (and the fuselage) are covered with fabric, which is normally doped silver before the final camouflage or colour coats as a protection against UV light.

What a beautiful Mossie! Too bad we'll never see it on the airshow circuit!

Tks a lot Dave for the pics
OK, as it seems from the past 4 years.
The engine are about still in the same condition as they where. Minus being on the AC.
The opening for the camera equipment behind the bomb bay doors is still there.....Might be right Dave. Now that would be different
BTW, any pics from the inside ? It was fully gutted but ready for re-assembly last time I sawe it also.
Tks again for sharing.

Yes, it's fully gutted still. Progress is moving along at a slow pase, but things are being done. The electrical is all complete, the re-scanned the fuselage to look for cracks and it came up clean. There are a number of "invisible" things they've done to it too.
It may not look like much at all, but it's getting there.
Cheers,
David
