Gary, thats a CH-37...............Hard to believe she is powered by a pair of 2800's.

I dont believe any fly.

Whats that on the side of the Huey? Looks like CAF Wings, a little before there time. Not big enough though!

That an H-37 Mojave, two R-2800's,one in each pylon. It was built by Sikorsky, and in its time, it was the heavy lift helo in the Army's inventory. It wasn't outdone till the Chinook came along

At first glance the Huey looked like it belonged to the CAF. :wink:

I still remember quite vividly my first landing in a Bell 47. I thought I had it nailed until I got close to the ground and then I felt like I was balancing on top of a big ball.

I don't think so as the first Huey's weren't delivered until 1962.

Yep, none are presently flying, tho I think there are several airframes stockpiled in Pennsylvania. I think
another airframe or 2 in Arizona, tho the engine pods were cut off in order to move one...not good. :cry:

The last one to fly was assembled by a company that used them at one time and flown to Pensacola. She resides
outside on display there... :cry:

There are some photos and film(no sound) of 15 of them in formation when they were flown in for their
retirement by the Army. Can you imagine THAT sound!!! :D

CH-37 was the heavy-lifter before Chinook came along serving in the Army and USMC...too bad none are flying today! :?

The Huey...

The wings on the side say "US Army Aviation Board".

It is an HU-1A #57-6102 The photo is marked "Heidelberg 1959" It is apparently one of the first 9 delivered to the Army.



The Huey first flew in 1956. Initial service delivery to the Army of the first of nine pre-production "HU-1 Iroquois" helicopters was on 30 June 1959

The Joe Baugher entry says

57-6095/6103 Bell HU-1A-BF Iroquois
c/n 10/18
Redesignated UH-1A-BF in 1962

Hi guys,

Cool pictures. I really like the #2 picture of the Hiller. It looks like the number on the tail is 56-2302. Wow! I have a Hiller in my garage with 56-2300 on it! I'm in the process of trying to get it restored. Just waiting on some funds.
I hope my Hiller looks as good as the one in the picture.

There were a few CH-37s still semi-intact outside the main compound at AMARC back in February of '89 when we spent a few days there. It seems that there was one that was complete with engines that hadn't been completely picked over. They may have been in Bob's Air Park. I didn't have any film left when we got to that area, so no pictures. I remember there were a bunch of KC-97 main gear sets laying around where they were stored.

Correction attempt #2,
The P-cola CH-37 is former Keystone Helicopters Corp. BuNo 145864 was purchased by NMNA, and flown there
in Feb/1981, from Tucson..I Think. There used to be a webpage which documented that event but I dunno
where it's at nowadays..my notebook is floating around in the misplaced Katrina/Rita evac storage limbo.. :roll:

The othe Keystone bird with the pods sawn off was last seen at Mojave Airport, Calif...the Mojave Mojave.

Allied Aircraft Sales in Tucson had a bunch of them, and I almost saw them in 2003..but I was next door
looking at the Albatross operation then and didn't go to the end of the road because I did a 180 and hauled
butt to see Pima before the August heat hit(11am)! :cry:
