The Squadron Signal P-35 in action book has photo of Buzz Wagner plane and describes the window as being for passenger use.

I'd heard it was a 'passenger window' too.
It was unlikely to have been a photo camera window as it's not optically good enough, IMHO.

That was a P-43.
After John Hampshire was shot down on May 2, 43 near Changsha Joe Griffin flew the 75th FS flight surgeon up to were he was. I believe the 'Doc' bailed out of the 43 but by the time he got to Hampshire he had succumbed to his wounds.
