We will probably see him at Omaka, Blenheim - not Auckland. We are currently organizing a visit to Subritskys and Pioneer for Steve, assuming he wants a look around those shops.

Thanks Setter for kicking this off. Yes boys and girls it’s time for a WIX/Flypast forum meeting in the Southern Hemisphere (it is summer there, right?). No, it doesn’t coincide with any big airshows, but you can’t tell me that there isn’t anything good to see (or drink) “Down Under”.

So basically…

Arrive Auckland Friday, Feb. 11th
Leave for Hong Kong, Monday, Feb. 21st

So, that gives me 10 days to explore New Zealand and Australia. Don’t ask me where I’ll be on any given day, as Setter has graciously signed on as official forum guide for this little expedition. We’re also hopeful that Dave McDonald can join us from Blenheim (as he owes me a Classic Wings t-shirt for the Seafire photos), and I would like to meet up with an L-39 mate of mine, Peter Voss.

When we run out of things to do in New Zealand we’ll head back to Brisbane, and I would imagine Melbourne (to see if the natives have eaten Mr. Tweed). If any of you would like to sign on for some, or all, of the festivities, then please PM Setter and he can coordinate dates and places. Being a typical American I’ve only recently discovered the fact that New Zealand isn’t “just off the coast” of Australia, so maybe I’m not the best one to plan this little journey.

After China I’ll be in England the first week of March. Tentative plans are to have a cleaning day at Old Warden, a visit to the Red Lion in Whittlesford (I mean a visit to Duxford), a pilgrimage to the Jackdaw in Kent (Oooh, Susannah sat here!!!), and of course, the first flight of the Rearwin at Popham.

So, any takers?

Don't we have a WIXer or two in Hong Kong? Too bad if you can't make it to Beijing on the mainland. There are a few good things to see there.

I'll have 2 or 3 days in Hong Kong, but Beijing will have to wait until this summer.

If there are any WIXer's in Hong Kong who would like to meet up please send me a PM

Steve

Sir Steve,

As far as NZ goes, great people, go into any 7/11 type with your 2 liter plastic bottle and fill it with red or brown lion beer. I know you will take in Wanaka. I can't enough about the place.

Cheers,

Lynn

Cap and T-Shirt awaiting....

When we run out of things to do in New Zealand

I was just thinking you are not going to have enough time to see much of anything! You'll be missing the RNZAF Museum and the Ferrymead Aviation Society in Christchurch, Wanaka ( and the chance to fly in an L-39 over the spectacular scenery), Mandeville Moth Factory, not to mention a look at the 'Soplata of the South', John Smiths Collection out of Nelson. And then there is all the adventure tourism and the countryside that 'Godzone' has to offer. Oh well, there is always next time I guess

Being a typical American I’ve only recently discovered the fact that New Zealand isn’t “just off the coast” of Australia, so maybe I’m not the best one to plan this little journey.

Oz is our 'West Island'

Mr McDonald you sir are a cheeky bugger!!!! - West island indeed. I shall of course be arranging for cricket lessons for you, the Poms and The Pakistanis whilst I am there - I should think you will need to start with the basics so I will bring the local under nines coach with me - shouldn't confuse you Kiwis tooooo much

kindest regards
john P

I'll be there. Just don't ask where 'there' is, or when. :D

It's a shame there's no time to make Christchurch. It's one of my favorite citys. Really nice people, beautiful place, lots of CD beer! I wish I had back just half of the money I've spent in O'rileys Irish Pub over the years!

I never got to see John Smith's place, but I did make the Air Force Museum several times as well as Ferrymead. The plastic Spitfire on the pole by the airport is worth a look as well. The hotel we stayed in every year was between the Antarctic center and the Spitfire. The first year I went down there, I woke up and looked out the window, only to see a Spitfire in the distance. I kept staring at it, waiting for it to move when I finally realized it was mounted on a pole.

I'm a little slow. It took me two trips down there to figure out what the "All Blacks " were.

Who says we're not going to Christchurch or Wanaka? I think Mr. Setter is still working on the agenda, so I wouldn't rule anything out at this point. Besides, there are always airplanes flying back and forth, you know!
