Aussie Beaufighters over PNG...
There are some more pictures in the same series. Wish they were in color. I bet they'd be spectacular.

Off hand, can anyone tell me the bomb and/or rocket load capabilities of the Beaufighter?

Thanks,

David

Offhand, Wiki:

Armament
* 4× Hispano 20 mm cannon (60 rounds per cannon, 240 rounds total) in nose
* Fighter Command only
o 4× .303 in (7.7 mm) machine gun (outer starboard wing)
o 2× .303 in machine gun (outer port wing)
o 8× RP-3 "60lb" rockets or 2× 1000 lb bombs
* Coastal Command only
o 1× manually-operated Vickers GO or .303 Browning for observer
o 1× 18 in (457 mm) torpedo

Thanks James,

So it was more of a ground attack, ship attack airplane like a Typhoon or P-47, as opposed to something like a Mosquito with more of a bomber capability?

Cheers,

David

BTW, thanks Ryan!

Yes, David, that would be a way of looking at it. Powerful punch with 6x .303 as well as the 4 x cannon. Unusual also in the asymmetric 2 & 4 wing gun set up.

Cheers

What must it be like to fly an a/c where the engines arrive at the airport before you do?
:wink:
I know this is not the only type where this is true, but, goodness, sometimes its hard to find the cockpit on a profile shot.
