The top scoring allied aces of WW2 were Russian VVs (air force ) pilots. I haven't found much written about them in english. Can anybody recommend any books or resources to learn more about these guys?

You might try this book. Somewhat generic, but will point you in the right direction.

Even today it's a poor showing in th English language of Russian achievement, and the fog of the Stalin era propaganda and fakes doesn't help. In terms of value for money in research and info, Osprey (one of our rival publishers) are hard to beat.

A quick look in their aces series shows:

I'm not familiar with these specific titles, but the others I've read and used have been most worthwhile.

Worth a look.

Thanks guys! I have already put in my orders for the books and the website is great. I live in Frankfurt Germany and am planning a 2 week Russia trip in 09. Anybody been there? any suggestions? It's amazing how little info there is on the Russian side of things. Oh yeah and isn't chuck yeager the greatest ace of all time?

No, Jack Cook says Pappy Boyington was. He was even the first to break 25 supersonic missions over Europe.

According to Chuck Yeager, Bud Anderson was the best.
