Gone West

For all those who didn't know, Larry Russell from Mission, TX passed away on April 30, 2008. He was a Col. in the CAF as well as a pilot and mechanic. God Speed, Larry.

Larry was lead in the restoration and was to be Cheif Pilot on the C-47 that is being restored in Hondo. We are continuing the project and although Larry will be sorely missed we will complete the project sometime soon. Controls hung next week with engine runs to follow. Hopefully she will fly sometime before the end of the year.

Larry was a good man and a good friend. I will miss him dearly. Besides him supporting the P-82 Squadron as well as numerous other aircraft, he would come by during the airshows in his spare time and relieve folks at the PX for a bathroom or food break.
I also got to go along for a ride or two in the Antonov AN-2 he used to fly for the Texas Air Museum in Rio Hondo, TX. What a joy that was. An accomplished pilot and mechanic, he was very personable and liked by many in the aviation community.
I simply cannot say enough about him.

Were you with him and the two AN-2s' at the Stinson show when a Level 6 thunderstorm blew in with 4 inches of hail and holed the planes to a never mind?

No, I only flew in the AN-2 with him at Rio Hondo.
