We have a very interesting and amusing thread running on the Flypast Forum concerning the indentations on the leading edge of Spitfire SL574 and how they got there and indeed if they were 'applied' post the cricket pitch incident. The Spitfire is currently resident at the San Diego Museum.

May I ask please if anybody in the San Diego area and interested in 'Spitfire folklore' could run a scale over the leading edge and advise as accurately as possible the centre line distance between the three respective indentations. With these dimensions it would then be possible to establish the angular track of the Spitfire across the playing line.

Many thanks,

PeterA
