I'm looking for any info on a helicopter collection that is located between Elmira and Geneseo, New York on Interstate 86. From the Highway a OH-6 Cayuse was visable on a hill. I remember traveling down a dirt road from the nearest off ramp and through a gravel pit before I came to the collection. I remember trying to get a guys attention who was cutting the grass on the property but he clearly did not want anything to do with me. I snapped a few images from the car and got the hell out of there as I got the creeps.

Anyone else stumble across this collection?

Eric

Hey guys,

This is a link to the images I took. They were taken on the way home from the 1999 Wings of Eagles Airshow at Elmira.

Tough to tell any kind of scale from the photo, but is that some sort of static tether to learn to fly a helo?

Eric,

I was there too in 1999 at Elmira ! Glad to have talked to Col. Bob Morgan and shook his hand ! He autographed one of his books...A moment never to forget !

Take care,

Paul

Eric,

I give you a lot of credit on that one, I have driven by a lot, but haven't gotten the nerve to stop... looks like my thoughts were confirmed!

I know that I looked into the possible ownership back a few years ago when a group I was affiliated was looking for a static Vietnam era helo for a tank and truck exhibit.

This was what I had found... still available on FAA reg website.

Possible Owner:
Dennis Clarcq
RD 1 Jones Road
Cohocton, NY 14826

Collection:
HUGHES 1970 369HS - N1042N
BELL 47 - N1HQ
BELL 47G-4 - N9010B
BELL 47G-2 - N9010N
HILLER 1948 UH-12A - N69085
HILLER 1958 UH-12A - N6331D
HILLER UH-12B - N2285F *Possibly Sold
HILLER 1959 UH-12D - N62MC
FAIRCHILD HILLER FH-1100 - N5024K
HUGHES 1967 269A - N62450 *Possibly Sold
HUGHES 1976 269C - N7447F *Possibly Sold

I know that most of these must be just parts and a fuselage, but I am not sure of course. Also this doesn't seem to reflect the possible Soviet helos that you took photos of... which I can't ID at all. There is also that Sikorsky H-34 that seems to be there too.

Beyond that, I am really not sure... anyone else know?

Both Soviet helos appear to be Mi-2 Hoplites.

The one closest the camera is missing the best Hoplite vis-recce feature: the very ugly engine housing on top. The one furthest away from the camera has that engine housing covered by a camo net and is also disguised by a partial fuselage from a different helo in front of it.

Eric, as you know I stoped by there on my way home from the Elmira show the year before. What a creepy place... I swear I could hear banjo music playing in the distance.... :0) Neat collection though! Jim

These were from 1999, I'm sure there are a few Robbies there now :D :D
