Grumman Duck in Columbia?

I'm pretty sure that is the Duck that Bob Diemert was trying to rescue but had trouble getting ownership issues ironed out. Kermit Weeks ended up getting the airplane out of Colombia in '82 or so if it is the bird I think it is.

That's the one. I still got the old Air Classics magazines which seemed to have an update on N55S every month for a while.

Hey Richard,

I came across that picture too. It was interesting to see how many warbirds passed through Vancouver in decades passed. Too bad practically none of them stayed. Blake's shots of the Abbotsford Airshow also made me wish I was born earlier. Nowadays that airshow doesn't see quite so many warbirds.

Anyways, thank you all for filling me in on that Duck's life.

The yellow and green striped F-86 was Boeings Canadair SABRE that now sits in the MoF, in the mid to late 60's/early 70's it was painted like that to match the 737-100 prototype. At least the green went better with the paler shade of yellow than the moose nose brown / screaming yellow of the 727 prototype. Later it was painted a more sedate red/white/blue scheme before being retired with a cracked spar and xferd to the MoF.

That's George Maude's P-40 which he still owns and keeps at Victoria Airport, BC. It's a real beauty!

I believe it was an ex-New Zealand airframe that was restored here as "Big Hog". I think it's in the UK right now.

Thanks guys... I thought it might have been the ex-OFMC corsair. On another note... there were a couple of fascinating pix of a Fairchild Pilgrim being used as a parachute plane. One ugly, but cool looking aircraft. Only five made... did this one survive to the present times? Anyone know where the photos were taken?
