Interesting pic of the long-gone Sam Houston Airport in Houston. Quite a variety of aircraft on the ramp! So who can identify all of them?

Are the 3 aircraft in the lower right Mustangs?

I doubt those three on the lower right are Mustangs. Noses are too short, for one thing. Also they look like they have long birdcages, and they are not that much bigger than the highwings by the hangar

Something about them says Vultee to me - maybe BT-13/15?

What happened to the Randy Wilson quizzes, I still want a pony, maybe just a party dog.

And the wings don't come off that way unless you use a SkilSaw (TM). BT-13 wings come off just outboard of the gear like that though.

The large top one sure looks like a B-24.

I can see a B-24, some BT-13's, some Seabees, Cubs, and I think an Aeronca Champ.

Is that a Cessna "bamboo - bomber" close to the round roof hanger ?

The B-24 is very interesting!

I wonder what that story is?

It may be possible that the B-24 is 927, but tough to say for sure. Continental Can did get the airplane from Consolidated back in 1947, but I can't recall just when. If it is our B-24 in the picture, that's a brand new civilian paint job on it there. :-)

A few more pics of the airfield here (this site is a great asset to finding little know or lost airfields)

Continental Can flew it in NMF for a while according to a gentleman I met last winter. He was flying out of their home field and distinctly remembered it being unpainted at first.

That seems to confirm what the fellow I talked to last year said, Rick. He thought it was NMF for somewhere around a year give-or-take a little.
