Geez, does that bring back memories. I was at Forbes in the heyday when Dad flew B-47's '57 to '62. I've got some great kidhood memories of those days. We lived on the base directly across the street from the base hospital. Used to walk to the O'Club to meet my friend the Chef who would get me into the big band dances to sit at the wait stand.
We had two duplexes, one single family, and the original farmstead house on base. The Provost Marshall lived in the farm house. We shared a duplex with the Fire Marshall. Across the street was the VIP quarters and the Chief Flight Surgeon. Behind him was the maintenance squadron commander.
The base was next to the main interstate highway and a double track AT&SF railroad. Talk about noise immersion. Will never forget B-47 take offs with JATO!
What is the current status of Forbes? Obviously, no longer a SAC base but what is it?
Thanks,
