A story appeared in the Wichita Eagle Newspaper about the WW2 Hutchinson Kansas Naval Airstation listed for Sale. The complete air station was sold some years ago to several local farmers and investors by the Feds. Over the years most of the real estate has been developed and the buildings and tracts of land sold. One individual purchased the east north south runway and most of the ramp area at that time. The story tells that the runway and a large building that contained an indoor swimming pool some 13,700 sq. feet of space are for sale. The runway is used by gliders and hosted some Glider contests in the past years. The airfield is listed on the Wichita Section Chart as "Sunflower Gliderport (PVT) 7,000 long runway probably 150 wide during Naval Aviation Operations. Some 100 acres of ramp area is part of the package. J.P. Weigand of Wichita is listing the Airfield. They have an aerial photo of the property in their commercial real estate divistion. Would make a good location for fly in community. Thought this might be of interest to those that keep track of the old WW2 Military Airbases.
