With the flood and peding litigation maybe coming down the road. Do you think they will continue to have airshows. What will happen to the collection.

Litigation? Last I heard, they re-opened. Isn't this a little premature?

I was going to go there the hurricane before Ike. And it missed, still kicking myself for that.

There was a story on the news the other day about Galveston. It said basically the area's economy is in shambles. The U of TEX Medical Center is pulling out and many businesses have not reopened and many homes are destroyed and still unrebuilt.

Unless they can absolutely 110% garantee that Galveston will NEVER have another hurricane/flood etc then rebuilding on the same field is an ETREMELY dumb idea...

After that, there would have to be the same guarantee of no earthquakes in California, or tornadoes in the mid-west, or fires in Michigan...

The folks at Lonestar have done a wonderful job putting together a class A air museum. I figure, the proper thing to say is thanks for all their hard work to put the museum together. And another thank you for equally hard work bringing it back.

Ike was the 3rd most destructive hurricane in history. And Galveston was wiped off the map a hundred years earlier by another hurricane. They learned a lot the first time, and will probably build things differently this time.

Stuff happens, and it happens everywhere. There is no such thing as "risk free"

With that kind of logic there shouldn't be anything on the Lexington either, or anywhere else along the coast, or anywhere in the midwest as it floods there a lot...

When its all done I'm sure it will be much more resistant to that kind of storm.

I'm sure they did 100 years ago when that happend and Lone Star was at their peak of aviation.... o wait...

Come on. There are ways to prevent the kind of damage they sustained and it can be minimzed.

And if it happens again, then you get back to restoring again.. isn't that what this community is about?

Yes, but memories are short. IIRC, the port facilities and buildings from the time of just after the 1900 hurricane, came through okay. The Galvez is open and the Flagship will re-open soon (and it is over the water).

At least with a hurricane, there is warning. They got the flyable planes out of harms way.

Jack, are you sure that UT medical is leaving. I am a lifetime alum, that would be a real shame. Is it because of the physical damage or other reasons? Is it expected to be permanent?

Bill,
I don't know just am repeating the story and offering no opinions
on Lone Star or anything else previously posted. It does look like economic chaos.
Even if the museum is open who would go??

Already trying to figure out a good time to head down there.

It would be nice if the railroad museum were open, but I'm not too picky.

Galveston is a tourist town, lots of things to do there. Even if resources are a little stretched right now. I am curious to find out how Moody Gardens came through.

It will be tough on the Teasippers if they abandon Galveston. The Aggies are ready to start up next semester
