Ron Pratt just bought the Pearl Harbor Tri Motor for 1.1 million at the Barrett-Jackson Auction.

There has NEVER been a structural failure in A TRI MOTOR, the things are built like a bridge-

The question is; does he have a museum? is he going to open one? he now has the F2G, a tri-motor, a whole bunch of the finest cars in the world. is all this STUFF out where common folk can see them? at any rate good for him i'll bet all his collection is well cared for.

Before he bought the Tri Motor he had already bought the following;

#1 1955 TBird 600,000.00

Jeff Gordon Nascar Monte Carlo 550,000.00 (charity )

Chevrolet COPO Camaro ZL-1 316,000.00

Plymouth Super Bird Custom Tribute 551,100.00 ( charity, I think )

I forgot a couple of others but I believe he spent just over 3,000,000 yesterday. He had already bought a few others in the preceding days.

Mr. Pratt has one very fine, but strictly non public collections I know of, and he's gotten some flak over it, but it is his money! must be nice to go out in the garage nekked and run around your toys and laugh -

My fiance was taking A&P classes when we met..she said one of her instructors asked a trivia question: What's the only aircraft type to never subject to an AD? Answer: Ford Tri-Motor!

I'll have to dig into my references, but I seem to remember that a Ford once lost an engine. I don't mean it quit..it fell off the wing. The plane still landed safely though. Of course that could be a maintenance issue rather than a structural failure.

The Tin Goose is one of my all-time favorite planes. I got my first airplane ride in the old Island Airlines 4-AT back in 1976, and have flown in two others since then.

Galloping Gertie, the first Tacoma Narrows Bridge fell into the Sound on 11/07/1940 taking along one 37 Chevy 2 door sedan and a black Lab who wouldn't get out of the car-you can see the car in the video of the incident check with GOOGLE.

Have a couple of friends near there just off Tacoma Narrows Airport they and their T-6 have been there in the water for close to 40 years now. The current there is pretty near a full on rip tide all the time.

Engines falling off are another matter, I was speaking of structural failures, and yes, never has been an AD against Mr. Stouts original design. A few have been modified to use one fuselage mounted engine in place of the three WRIGHTS
