What aircraft did they use in Hot Shots movie at Mohjave?

Im told they used Folland Gnats modified ?

The planes used were Folland Fo-145 Gnats.

They don't appear to be modded, only "The Navy" paint applied.

The main on camera aircraft were the Folland Gnats but in the air to air scenes there is another type on The Navy side, maybe a Pinto?
