 Post subject: OSH 74 Photo Quiz

One last try - only had one entry (from Brad & Randy) and some ID help on the last 3 P-51's (thanks, Tulio). Either everyone's too busy to bother or I need to toss in a prize On the off chance a small prize will generate interest, I'll mail one of these to whoever gets me the most complete answer before Sun n Fun:

It's a 3 watt (i.e., bright) LED head light - very good for hands-free work in low light conditions plus it has red night vision and a red/blue blood tracking mode. Bow hunters use this for tracking deer after dark - it will also help you find that crescent wrench you threw into the woods after you busted your knuckles on it. :)

On the road and on my laptop, and tired. However the last 3 Camo mustangs had just returned from latin american and are ex FAG-315, FAG-351, and FG-354. If no one else supplies he mil numbers I will when I get home tomorrow. Hopde this helps.

I think you may want to re-look at the registration for the Sea Fury in your pic. As far as I know, the only Sea Fury to be registered N51SF was by Jerry Janes, the old polished Cottonmouth II and now is with Cavannaugh as Conch Fury or some such. There is a story of sorts to this, but that is neither here nor there. A search of the registry shows that a John Stokes owned at one point the current Critical Mass (N85SF) and also a T.20 N924G which apparently is owned by the Sanders brothers. Hope this helps.

Where has he said he took the photo? There is no credit on the photo either?

Could you show me the exact wording in his first posting that links the photo ownership to him? Ive read the post 3 times and cant see any reference...

I have individual photos of most if not all of these birds taken at OSH 74. Haven't had time to check them yet, but here are a few that I can fill in from memory.

The F4U-7 is 133714 N33714.
The FG-1D is the CWH's 92436 C-GCWX.
The Sea Fury may be TG114 N232J; I have to check whether that one was there that year.
The Kittyhawk, AK979, was then registered N151U.

More later if I get around to it.

I think it pretty much has to be. The German Furys didn't arrive in the USA till a year or so later. I'm not sure where N51SF in the original chart came from, but that can't be right as it didn't arrive in the U.S. till later in the 70s.

Yep - photos are mine. Sorry if I created confusion by starting a new post but I wanted to put "OSH 74" in the subject line and haven't figured out how to change the title of a previous post. I'll post a message on the old one saying I moved it :oops:

The list from Sport Av is an unexpected resource! I rummaged through Warbird Registration records but nothing goes back that far since it was all on paper then. Thanks, Brad! Do you still have all the old back issues? My wife did make me throw them away several years ago. Should make the 'contest' easier.

The main reason I did this was that I wanted to hear any stories about what these machines have gone through since this photo was taken. For example, the Sea Fury in the photo has now been correctly identified and it is still flying today (but looks significantly different and was up for sale last I heard). I can look them up on Warbird Registry or Airport-Data but that's not the same as hearing some first & second-person history.

The only one in the whole lineup that I can't identify is this P-51:

That's my old friend Bob Hansen in the foreground - can't read the N-number though. Any ideas?
