How Do I Fly?

Mon Mar 16, 2009 8:47 pm

Looking for guidance as of how to become a P-47, B-17, B-29 pilot eventualy. Finishing up my CFI, and have just a few hours of tail wheel time. Considering getting a job towing banners this summer to build up my Tail Wheel time. What's next after building up tail wheel & high performance time?

remember the basics,
pull back, houses get smaller, keep pulling back and houses get bigger again.

push forward, houses get bigger, keep pushing forward, houses get bigger a whole lot faster

In all seriousness, this is the "gatekeeper" to the warbird world. If you are hoping to ever fly a warbird fighter, at least 200 hours in the T-6 is required to be in your logbook in order for you to be insured to fly the fighter..

If you are interested in going into the multiengine heavies, then the C-45/Twin Beech is the place to start logging similar numbers of hours.

Talk to WIX'er Chuck Gardner. He took the exact route you're describing and succeeded at it. He's now logging massive amounts of time in the Collings Foundation's TP-51C!

Ahhh, I remember when he was just a wee lad looking for his first job towing banners.

go where the planes are and..

200 hours in a T-6

Tue Mar 17, 2009 12:30 pm

You guys need to get more specific:

200 hours T6 at 30 gallons an hour= 6000 gallons

6000 gallons at $4.50 a gallon = $27,000.

Bare facts, objective information, what WIX is ALWAYS about... Bull$hit not allowed here...

but if you don't go where the planes are....

I know where fuel can be had for $2-3.50 a gal... if that helps any.
