DC -2 or a C-53?

Mon Mar 16, 2009 1:30 pm

???Hmmm, just looks too narrow, here is a good interior shot of a c-47, looks much wider, number of stringers in the framing is different as well, what model is this?

That is one of the DC-2 derivatives, holedigger. Not sure if it is a C-33. 34, 39 etc, but that is why the narrower flat sided fuselage.

Rudder looked wrong for the DC-2, but then again, there were so many variants!

I think it is a C-39 which used the C-33/DC-2 fuselage and wings with DC-3 center-section, tail unit and landing gear according to various sources. Thirty-five were built with the last delivered in Sept 1939. I think these were the last of the DC-2 series produced. My 2 cents.

The headlights under the Cockpit suggest the 33 or 39. Also the window frames in the interior picture match up with those of the DC-2-C39.

Wow.., the narrower fuselage really made her not look like a C-47 variant! More like a Wellington body.

Well done!

The Wellington's fuselage was comprised of "criss-cross" geodesic stringers and looks quite different inside.
