Yes, it's a total corroded and twisted wreck. Although the wings are straight. Sergey wants 250k for a Zero project in even worse condition!

Its as good, if not better than the projects I have seen come out of PNG - definitely a "builder" in my book. If you had to go through all the hassles and expense of trying to spring something like that out of PNG these days - assuming the locals haven't scrapped all the survivors yet  - it's probably going to be relatively cheap. Depends on how bad you want a Tony.

Be prepared to pay 300k for a bunch of corroded scrap metal.

Just curious....with all the restoration going at Precision Aero.

Would it not be cheaper to have a scratch built airframe from A toZ ?
They are already doing 3 birds

What would be the running cost for just the sheet metal airframe. Let's say minus engine, plumbing & electrical with with the landing gear on.

200 to 250 K ? Just curious as always

I would think that for the internal components, engines (looks like a potentially salvageable nosecase too), landing gear, etc. that this project is viable. The sheet metal and extrusions are easy enough to duplicate.

I guess if you don't like the price you can make an offer...

Would or could you use an Allison to power a Tony?

I've ben told that the Allison is suitable for inverting, but I'm not sure how much effort that would take or if inverting an Allison would suit a Ki-61. Of course you could always convert a Ki-61 to a Ki-100 which is a good looking plane too.

Looks like it has an original engine.Parts will be a hassle but a fuse can be built as the frames and a lot of other sheetmetal parts can be rolled flat and used as patterns.

Wouldn't it be better to build one from plans? There may be people in Japan w/ the factory drawings? I might want to do that rather than pay 300 grand for a pile of crud with a handful of useful parts.

I have sneaking suspicion this is the Santa Monica wreck that went to Russia for rebuild at Orenburg......and was seized along with everything else there......stand to be corrected if someone knows better.

It is to my knowledge. That ki-61 disappeared 15 years ago, and appears to have re-emerged in Russia.
