I stopped by the Texas Air Museum at Stinson Field last week. I really enjoyed their displays, especially the AVG stuff.

Actually Matt, it's easier on the axis related stuff to go to www.preservedaxisaircraft.com when
you know the location of the subject aircraft. Pick the subject out of the menu, select, and scroll down to the
location of yer bird. The WR is a bit ponderous if there are many examples of what you seek because
you have to click on each one until you find what you want...not so bad for the FW-190...bloody 'orrible if it's
a P-51. It's often easier to to ask the forum...some folks here know it off the top of their head.

Adflyer, the F-4 outside is F-4C 63-7415. I was researching an F-4D history a few months back and ran across
the following posts of the fellow who's taken on the task of sprucing up the old girl. History of the bird etc.
By your photo it appears he's started the paint work on the vert. fin...

I just read the entire thread, seems that this guy has put a lot of time and money to try and do things right. This was posted by that volunteer working on her on 4-22-09. :shock:

I got a big problem.

This ex airforce guy wanted to work on the F-4, which is fine, but he wanted to "paint" it. Screw the body work and the primer, he just wants to paint it.

Long story short, last week he painted the tail and part of the wing. He used a roller and Sherwin Williams house paint.

Then he broke out his little paint brushs and painted the over all the decals. It's bad. Real bad.

I will get pictures for you this Saturday.

i almost blew a head gasket when i walked in the place,only in texas will you find rare planes.the story i was told the FW190-A-8 was from hondo tx where they had crates of FW190 :shock:

one went to FL (stormbirds.com).the one in stenson was to bent to make airworthy,and all the wing skins are held down by screws &nuts not a complete plane.bill

I think that that bird actually used to be down at Cannon Field. I also heard it was for sale quite cheap (before I got down there) for a while before going to the museum.
