HBO Movie "Taking Chance"

Sun May 31, 2009 5:13 am

The true story of Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl escorting the remains of Lance Corporal Chance Phelps (KIA in Iraq) back to his hometown. If you haven't seen this movie, it is well worth your time (now on DVD). Very, very well done...

I saw it the first night it aired and thought it was a great movie. Worth watching, but if you have served, grab some tissues, this one will get to you. Trust me.

Even if you have not served, it's pretty powerful.
It really is a must see for everyone in this country.

Agreed, it is powerful. I can't speak from a civilian side, but as a vet, it hits you right in the gut.

I’ve read a lot about this. But as someone who’s had to make more than one “call” on the widows (none of whom knew they were widows before I showed up with the Chaplain) and had to deal with one escort of a body home for burial, I really don’t need to see this movie. I totally understand the cost of service and am haunted enough by what I dealt with in the past. That being said, I feel it’s a good thing to get this across to others who don’t know the pain of it, especially if the film was done as well as I’ve read it was.
