With the ball turret for the Memphis Belle almost complete, another ball turret is being prepared for installation. I wonder if this is going to go to SSB, the one in SSB goes to Strawberry Bitch, and the Belle's goes back into it.

Why is it that I read this and the first thing that springs to mind is "Heavy Bomber Chop-Shop"?

I would think it would go directly into Straberry. I believe her original ball turret is in the former NMUSAF B-17 now at Dover. I hope they still have the turret mounts and retraction system in storage somewhere..the ball turret setup on the B-24 is totally different from the B-17.

I wish this kind of stuff was covered on the restoration page on the museum's website.

Ha Ha it is all good man. I know we don't see eye to eye on some things, but that is as far as it goes man. We just all enjoy aviation and are very passionate about what we do in it.

I'm only a year late sending the Sperry parts to you guys. I guess I better get off my rear end and send over what I've got. There are still some items I can't find but I've got most of the pieces that are missing for the upper and the lower.

I've been working on the ball turret for Aluminum Overcast, using some parts scavenged from a B-24. We have the upper post (with the forks) left-over. PM me if you need that part, and maybe we can work a trade.

Chris,
I'm sure we could work out some sort of trade but I think our fellow WIXer Second Air Force is looking for the parts that you may have spare. If you two don't already know each other, you might want to send him a PM. Right now, my list of "most wanted" items shapes up about like this:

1) Aero-9 Neptune/Mercator nose turret manual. (parts, overhaul, operation). A copy would be fine, don't need an original but it's always nice to have the real thing.

2) A-15 B-24 nose turret parts.

3) Just about any antique airplane part.
