This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

That would be the CAF's P-40 with the authentic paint job and markings, per Tex Hill. It will be so much easier to know who it belongs to once the CAF "Brand" wings are applied to it!

Thanks, I kind of suspected it was the CAF's, but like you say, it didn't have the big bumper sticker on it.

I'm not sure what inspired the painter (maybe getting rid of the extra paint he had laying around?) but that is a really weird paint scheme.
Tex's name on the side sure don't make it authentic
Jack who's awaiting a response from Taylor
BTW that B-24A looks awesome! Someone sure put their heart and soul into that baby

As it was told to me, this is the paint colors the original aircraft wore that the AVG started with. They were diverted from being delivered to England for the AVG, hence the English colors. The markings were from sketches of his plane provided by Tex Hill himself.

Unfortunaley they are way off. Someone really missed the boat!
Check out my friend Brad's webpage featuring his dad's (RT Smith) AVG color photos to compare.

Jack, can you please let it die? It's been stated several times that the colors were selected by Tex himself for
HIS plane. No matter what you think is or isn't accurate, this is what Tex wanted and is accurate to
HIS wishes. The research done by him and others during the process of the restoration seems to bear out that this is an accurate color palette.
I hate to tell you, but I've been told by several professional vehicle and aircraft painters never to use photos, even modern ones, for color values unless you have a lot of references to normalize the colors with. The color produced for a photograph will vary by camera, lens, film, and atmospheric conditions, thus any number of photographs can look "right" and still be wrong to the real thing.
On the Original Topic:
The first T-6 is Carl Best's. His plane has been pictured on the forums several times before. He's a really nice guy and helps out a lot of the area T-6 guys with maintenance and annuals. The plane is on a 30+ year restoration plan.

Carl Best is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable people I've met in regards to the T-6. I'm sad I missed the show, but I was busy playing L-5 restoration

The silver Cessna 195 belongs to CAF High Sky Wing member James Martin - it is currently for sale if anyone is interested. James flies a number of our Wing's aircraft and graciously uses his 195 in support of our activities, carying extra Wing members and ground crew to shows. You can also see the red cowl with 101 of the HSW's SNJ, which was flown by Lance Sommers, in the left of the photo. We had planned to also bring our PT-19 to Denton but bad weather all day Friday and Saturday morning in Midland caused us to scrub that flight. Our Fairchild J2K and Stinson 105 are both down for maintenance but should be flying again soon.
We do sell rides in the SNJ and PT-19 if anyone is interested. Cost is $300 for the SNJ and $200 for the PT-19. We do sell rides at fly-ins and shows that we attend, whenever possible, and we can accept credit cards even in the field. We also offer gift certificates for rides if you would like to make a present of a warbird ride.
If you have any questions about the High Sky Wing or our rides progam, feel free to contact me by PM or other means. Y'all fly safe.

I attended, wish I hadn't wasted the gas. I think I took one photo. Would have been nice to shoot the two RAG Hornets, but overzealous ramp goons wouldn't let you near them.
A Strikemaster was nice to see, but USMC markings? I know the owner can do what he wants, but I don't understand why someone would spend the large sum of money to paint a warbird in a bogus scheme.
I remember back in the '80s, when warbird shows at that airport attracted 150+ aircraft. Some of the best warbird photography I've ever done, and man what goodies we saw. Even had the Blue Angel A-4s there once, only time I ever saw them use their braking chutes to stop.

Well have to agree to disagree unless palette means the colors used are way off
