1941 Historical Aircraft Group Update (June 20th, 2009)

Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:47 pm

Hello there fellow WIXers, as I mentioned before, I will be posting updates on our museum routinely on this forum from now on :) I do this on our museum's message board every week to keep the public informed on what we are up to at "Hag," and I figured you guys would like it to! I also usually post pictures from around the museum as well, so keep your eyes open. Here goes...

Hi Guys, hope you are all having a great weekend! We made a LOT of progress today around the museum, everything is looking up! If you haven't visited the museum yet this spring, make sure you do asap, lots of cool stuff going on.

Aircraft -

C-47 – Waiting outside for the next airshow, the plane has never looked as good as it does now.

C-45 – Also patiently waiting for the next airshow.

B-17 Movie "Memphis Belle" – Currently in the hangar until next weekend when it goes to the next airshow.

Aero Commander 100 – Got some well deserved TLC from today and will be receiving a new wind screen soon.

Antonov An-2 – The big Russian bi-plane got a load of attention today. All the hard work of our volunteers paid off today as an extremely successful engine run-up was accomplished!!! This is great news for this bird and tomorrow may find it roaming amongst the skies.

F6F Hellcat Replica – The broken canopy has been fixed and the prop is now on the plane as well, should only be a matter of time before it starts “flying” atop it's pole.

'41 Fighter Fund – I have been comprising an “order of operations” for what I will accomplish this summer. Everything seems to be falling together quite nicely right now, especially for my airshow plans.

Airshow – Not much news to report as of now, but I will be going to the meeting this Wednesday and will report on what I hear.

Austin, great to see someone reporting from the museum. How about posting the list of confirmed airshow aircraft so far that was posted on the HAG forum.

Cheers,

Eric

Does anyone know if one of the four Corsairs scheduled at Geneso this year will be the one from Vinage Wings of Canada?

Can't wait to see it in the Lt Gray colours before they change the paint scheme.

If only I'd known that it unexpectedly replaced the Sabre at Downsview's Wheels & Wngs show this year I would have went, (only 20 minutes away)

Geneso is an every year thing for my father son and I.

I don’t think VWoC Corsair will be there. The ones listed are American Air Power, Tom Duffy and Collings Foundation.

The web site indicating the aircraft owners is very recent, last time I checked the show list it only refrenced the aircraft types.

Thanks for the heads up!!

I guess I will have to hopefully catch it at Trenton's Airshow on the 07/04/2009 weekend.
Disappointed that it didn't make it to Hamilton's Fly Fest this weekend.

The latest airshow lists mentions that the F4F will be a no show. However it appears that they will have an A-26 and 2 P-51's, one of which is 'Never Miss' with it's new owner.

They still list the So Cal wing CAF Hellcat. I'm not counting on it but hope to be pleasantly surprised. What puzzles me is why not the CAF SBD? Its been up here for Reading and New Garden PA?

I am sure we will see aircraft from the Russel Group, Vintage Wings, and Canadian Warplane Museum also in attendence. Usually they aren't on the airshow list but always seem to show up.

Any word on the Dragon?

Sun Jun 21, 2009 4:59 pm

Is the B-17's airshow schedule listed anywhere?

Dragon / B-17

Sun Jun 21, 2009 5:44 pm

The B-23 Dragon Fuselage and Center section is still waiting in Midland, TX for us to have it trucked up to Geneseo. The rest of the parts are in a storage container outside of our hangar. We are hoping to bring the rest of the plane up this summer, but we need more funds to do it.

As for the B-17 Movie "Memphis Belle" Schedule, here it is!

B-17 Movie “Memphis Belle” Air Show Schedule as of 5/13/2009 (subject to change)

April 24-26 ~ Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, NC
May 15-17 ~ Andrews Air Force Base, MD
June 5-7 ~ Ed Russell Group, Niagara Falls, Canada
June 26-28 ~ Fort Drum, NY
July 3-5 ~ Binghamton, NY
July 10-12 ~ Geneseo, NY
Sept. 5-7 ~ Cleveland, OH
Nov. 6-8 ~ Monroe, NC

The following are tentative:

July 18-19 ~ Ypsilanti, MI
Sept. 18-19 ~ Scott AFB, IL

Thanks. I haven't seen that one yet and was hoping to, but it looks like it won't be coming my way this year.

Geneseo cancelled the SBD the night before the New Garden show. That direct from the pilot.

On the So Cal CAF website they list our airshow on their flight schedule, even says the Hellcat will be the plane to attend :)

Oh I have no doubt about the scheduling, it's just that CA is along way from Geneseo! I guess I've learned not to expect too much with these 'ol birds. But, like I said when I get to the field I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the sight of a Hellcat! There were a few P-40 no shows last year (I was hoping to see Rudy Banta's ex Doc Andersons and Kermit's TP-40N) but that didn't take away from the show we had, no way!

Austin, can you comment however on Rich's comment heard from the SBD driver? Why was the invitation canceled? To me the SBD is one of the Navy types that would make the show complete? Since the F4F pulled out is there room for reconsideration?
