I know that Corsairs and Skyraiders of VMF-225 and VMA-225 wore this tail code (currently VMFA-225 sports "CE") but what does "WI" mean? How were the codes assigned? For awhile, their Corsairs had "SI" on them, signifying their attachment to USS Siboney, CVE-112. Did "WI" have a similar connection?

thanks,

Dave
