Hello,

Are there any other "active" P-39 restorations other than ones being rebuilt in Australia? I simply love the aircraft.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron:

There is one being built by an organization back east somewhere along with a P-40, SBD, and a "Million Dollar Valley" B-26. :D

Chris,
If you are referring to the MAPS example, which fits your description, then that one is definitely not being worked on at the moment, unless they just started it up. Last time I saw it, it was outside their facility, under the cover of the roof overhang thankfully. I don't know of any others being restored to fly in the States, however, one of those being rebuilt in Aus. is for Jerry Yagen, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA. Does that whet your appetite anyone?

Cheers,
Richard

as of last year maps p-39 was still outside. haven't been to the facility since. it is far from complete too. million dollar valley is an area in canada that has a number of crashed birds that never made it being fairyed to the ussr during ww2 for lend lease program. it has been a hunting ground for collector / millionaire dave tallichett in the past. regards, tom

Hi Ron,

If you're interested in statics as well, apparently a P-400 is being pieced back together by a Jack Taft of Jackson, MI. I seem to remember someone stating in an earlier post that they had seen it. You can check the ID in the warbird index also. Maybe you can track it down if/when you head over to Ypsilanti in August.

Say hi to Kaori!

I wanted to let you know that Jack Taft and I have been trying to get together for about 7 months now. Yes he has a P-400 that he got out of New Ginieu a long time ago. This has been a long term project and still is. Jack called me up just this past Saturday and if evrything falls into place I will be interviewing him and taking pictures of his project for Warbirds Digest late this summer. He does have a very interesting story to tell about his exploits in getting this P-400. Sincerely Ed Likes

Thanks for the update, Ed.

I'll (try to) wait (anxiously) for your article to hit the shelves, but if I could ask one question: Is Mr. Taft intending this project to be static, or does he have flyable visions going on?

TIA!
