Warbird Information Exchange

Here's a rare shot of Rex Barner's 339th FS P-38G s/n 43-2187 on Ftr 2 Airstrip on Guadalcanal in March 1943. #125 was supposedly named "Diablo" on the starboard side but few know that the actual name "Daisy" was painted on the port.

That isn't the one he flew on the Yamamoto mission, is it? I thought that one was "Miss Virginia."

#125 was Rex's assigned a/c. He did fly #147 on the Yamamoto'mission though. #147 was assigned to Lt Bob Petit who's P-51A is the famous Mustang from the 1st Air Commando Group in Burma. The POF P-51A is painted in these markings. #125 was later assigned to ace George Chandler who renamed in "Barbara Ann IV".

Thanks for the info! I have decals for #147..now if somebody would just do a decent 1/72 scale early P-38 kit...

For that matter, the same decal set has markings for Yamamoto's Betty. Of course, we don't have a modern kit of the G4M1 in 1/72 either.
