George Welch and Ken Taylor immediately spring to mind.

Here is a good link to the planes and pilots who got off that fateful morning and put themselves in harms way. Could use a few more pics, but then again, at that point there were other priorities.

I know there are some photo's out there somewhere. I also recall seeing pics of Rasmussen and his P-36 with battle damage following his skirmishing with Zero's.

Sadly you won't find too many photos of these aircraft. I spent years with David Aiken looking for them. He has some but you gotta wait for his book to see them.

A total of 25 fighter sorties were made on the morning of December 7th.

Lt. Harry Brown and Lt. Mike Moore both credited with shooting down a A6M2 in P-36's. (from memory)But Harry took off from Haleiwa as Moore took off from Wheeler. Both of these A6M2's where thought to have returned to its carrier but both wrecks were discovered a few years ago comfirming credit to Brown and Moore.

And the famous P-36 flight that took off from Wheeler....Lt. Sanders, Thacker, Rasmussan(P-36 #86), and Sterling.

Read below link by David Aiken..a top class article!

No library would have this info unless you dig up USAF records and personal accounts. Otherwise you won't find much.
