Grumman Panther missions

Greetings all,

one of my most favorite airplane is Grumman Panther, it have really nice shape. No doubt that Grumman is master in creating of naval airplanes from early days. What I would like to know is some interesting action or mission of this machine. All I know is that it is used in Korea, as I know first air kill there was made from Panther... there was some local publication here long time ago, when we still was Socialistic Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and in that publication was memory of former Panther pilot and I still remember his note that 'Panther swim like Axe'...

Hope that I do not bother you with this machine and hope I could have some interesting facts and memories.

Not to take anything from the Panther's service, but I think I read that the first first kill went to an F-82?

First kill for US Navy in Korea.

On 3 July 1950, LT (j.g.) Leonard H. Plog of U.S. Navy's VF-51 flying an F9F-3 scored the first air victory of the war by shooting down a Yak-9. Len was from Hood River, OR and flew SB2Cs in VB-83 USS Essex 1944-45

Just clarifying! 1st Kill aerial of the war, Yak-7U, June 27th by an F-82 of the 68th FS. Then the Navy got involved :shock:

I think when ABSOLUTES like "first" and "never" and such are used, they must be used carefully! There is a difference between First Aerial Kill and First Navy Aerial Kill.
Guess it depends on what your definition of what IS is!?
Like NO WMD's were found in Iraq. Guess the mustard gas and Sarin gas shells that were found didn't count because they were OLD. They were still there and they were found! Words do mean things.

I think the only Navy Ace was in a F4U, but I would have to dig into that a bit.

Panthers scored just a few A2A kills their mission was mostly ground support.
