i've got a real stumper!! read in an old usaf 1962 dated aircraft silhouette i.d. training manual of a number of different types of ex ww2 soviet & u.s. aircraft that were used in indonesia after the war, namely russian tu-2 bomber, la-11 fighter, u.s. pby catalina, b-25 mitchell, b-26 invader, piper grasshopper, douglas c-47, t-6 texan, post war f-51 mustang among others. could their still possibly be derelict aircraft of these types in remote areas of indonesia?? what a find that would be today!! indonesia is so vast as a number of land masses that anything is possible!! 8) 8) :o also they are an extremely secretive & isolationist type of country. mr chris!! harvard iv!! you got your ears on good buddy??? regards, tom

The history of the aircraft that went from the NL military to AURI is rather well known, as well as the aircraft still extant [B2-5, C-47, T-6, P-51] I really doubt if there's much left, but I always appreciate to be surprised. Just got a few pictures of M-458, ex NEIAF / ML-KNIL and now a static exhibit in Jakarta

Hi Tom, Folks:

From what a friend told me, the TNI-AU rarely scraps their aircraft. They just leave them out in open storage at various locations. Manado was an AURI base, and there was a 2 or so B-26's there in the 60's. I'm going to take a look around Manado airport when I get there.

I've got word from a reliable source, approximately 20 B-26's in storage at Manado as of 2002. We shall see.

None of us even scratch the surface compared to some of the guys on the LAAHS board. These guys go through Nicaragua and South America! I wouldn't even try it..

Chriiisssss, Do you know, or are you acquainted with Indiana Tony? And
might I suggest that many of the LAAHS guys are so brave with Latin
America....because they LIVE there!!! It makes all the difference in the
world if you live in the place you are hunting..or that you have spent years
getting to know the places you do your hunting!!!

Hi Airnutz:

I would suspect something about Indiana Tony, because it sounds like he's planned overseas travel before.

Let's hear it.

Yes, highly suspect. And he's probably never even been to Indiana I'd bet!

The P-51 in the RNZAF Museum came from the Indonesian Airforce.
