I'm not sure if it has been reported here, but it appears the Corsair cockpit at the now closed Goodyear World of Rubber is going to MAPS.

Can any of the MAPS guys confirm this?

Jim

It should be there or on the way. I know we got it, but they have to move a wall to get it out.

There is no better of a place for it than the MAPS Air Museum. The guys and gals out there have really busted their butts and put together a great museum. Good for you MAPS. I hope one day you all get a whole FG-1D, or F2G.

So from descriptions I hear that it is a fuselage and cockpit? Are there any pics? I have never seen this thing.

I assume this is the "no photography allowed" piece that's listed on AerialVisuals? I never understood why you would make that a condition....

they made you buy the post card in the gift shop. I used to play in this when I was a kid. its a real time capsule. Back in the 70s you could take pictures and sit in it.

When I went thru the rubber museum a few years back, they told me there were no cameras allowed because it is in their office building.

I was allowed to take pics of the cockpit a few years ago. I just asked security and they escorted my to the cockpit.Corporate espionage etc. I have to get down to MAPS, but having 2 full time jobs is killing me

As funny as it sounds it happens. The Rouge plant tour told us about how they used to allow photos, but they caught a bunch of guys from other car companies taking pictures of machinery and such.

The main spar has been cut on either side of the fuselage to facilitate the display, but it's definitely a spectacular time capsule of a cockpit.

Here are some crude images, but it gives an idea what the display consists of. Note the cut spar under the "stage" area.
