I recently purchased a few photographs of F-5 44-26981 N5596V in the background of one of the photos 44-53180 is clearly visible. If the info on the warbirdregistry is correct the photos would have had to have been taken between Nov 56 and 23 Aug 57. Does anyone out there have any info on these birds or any more photos of them? Perhaps any info in Hycon during those days? As a bonus also got a decent shot of P-51D 44-73423 as N5465V, if you are into horses.

Thanks,

Gary

44- would make it a Lockheed F for Foto F-5, Chris.

Can't see why anyone would want to see any Mustang pix, but post 'em anyway. ;)

I would be very interested in seeing the photo's.

You should pick up the book P-Screamers by A. Kevin Grantham. Has a section on N5596V but they list the serial # as 44-26996. Has a number of photo's of it. Amazon has used copies starting at $12.77.

44-53180 was one of the 3 original Hycon P-38/F-5G to get the elongated Hycon photo nose. The plane was destroyed in a crash at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport Aug 23, 1957. Pilot Gilbert Mendoza and photographer John L. McPherson were killed.

Mike,

Interestingly enough, although given the time perhaps not that rare, a Connie also appears in the photo of 53180. Given the circumstances of her demise it struck me as a bit of an odd coincidence.

Nice pic, looks like she was a bit of a tail-dragger!
That little red and white car, a Metropolitan? Sure looks late 50's

Yeah I tried to date even further with the Nash, but can not tighten it up beyond the 8 month span of Nov 56 to Aug 57. The Metro looks to be a series II which does not help because they were produced from 55-58!

Thanks for the pictures. What is the chance you could post the P-51D shot as well.

Can you read the name on the hanger? Can we get a close up of 44-53180?

Mike

Second that. Is the photo of the 51 shot at the same airport?
