A Grumman TBM-3E Avenger, the latest acquisition by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, arrived today by road. What better way to celebrate the arrival than unload it, hang the prop and fire her up! It will be in many more pieces very shortly as work begins to get her flying.

ok dumb question time, with the engine running, how come you guys were not able to fly it there, at any rate, CONGRATS, and best of luck to you GOOD folks. yall did good.

Great news... incidentally, I thought this aircraft had been sitting since the early '90's... kinda amazing that she fired up at all.... had any work been done on the engine recently?

Had been running into the 2000's and then preserved. It was run during the pre-buy inspection in New Brunswick, but a second run for a good looking over and compression check was done upon arrival. The engine is fairly low time!
And I have to agree, the wings are a little short!
It was decided to truck it rather than work possibly out doors with the fall weather setting in to get it ready for ferry flight.

The museum will try and keep a thorough update as the progress continues on the restoration.
The gunners compartment is not much to see at this time. green primer and metal, minimal original equipment left in place, mount ring partially there. Will try and get someone to take some photos of the interior.

Hi,
My TBM is 600 miles away still in Mn. I have been making some progress on small parts but the Skyraider keeps me pretty busy. To get my TBM fix I've been doing some work on the CAF TBM at Smart Field. An overdue annual that has seen a lot of worn out parts replaced, and a effort at returning the interior to a stock condition. I hope to move my TBM here asap but for now the Skyraider is my main focus :roll:

It is good to see the CWH has an Avenger again.

I have done a little history work-up on this airframe. It can be found here...

Had my camera with me on the weekend when i was in signing out the Sea Fury and thought I'd post a few for the Wixers on what's happening with the Avenger project.
Lots of disassembly, cleaning and obsolete systems ( sprayer) removal.
Will wait for an update from engineering on what the timeline is, and how things are progressing.
Lots of work ahead though.
