Warbird Information Exchange

This is the competition that resulted in the Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II (and Piper Enforcer?).

I am looking for an illustration and any additional information available on the North American Aviation/North American Rockwell entry, which I doubt got beyond the proposal stage (was a mock-up built?).

Did it have an NAA engineering number? What were the proposed engines? Size and weight? Any info would be appreciated!

AFAIK the Northrop A-9 was the competition for the A-10

Yes, the A-9 was the competitor to the A-10.

The Piper Enforcer predecessor, the Cavalier Turbo Mustang III, briefly competed against the A-X proposal in 1970.

...and Sukhoi built loads of A-9s. Sorry, Su-25s...

In the flyoff maybe, but there were other competitors in the proposal stage. I have access to a cool wind tunnel model for the NAA entry but would like some additional info.

Cool, don't know much about the early stages of the competition. I would like to see an image of the model if you have one.

This model looks NOTHING like the A-10 or A-9! More like the F-22 actually. I'll post a photo as soon as I get one. The model is in a 3' x 4' storage crate right now and requires a hoist to lift it- and it is made from aluminum.
