Another 339th P-51 Sled

Found on Flickr. The owner found this series of negatives in an Antique shop. Seems a little sad that someones personal memories end up nameless in a store. But that's the way it is and thanks to him for sharing them with the rest of the world.

"Esther" from the 504th Fighter Squadron, 339th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force, S/N 44-14321 that crashed while on take off on Feb. 5,1945. The pilot was Lt. Vernon Barto.

I wonder if this was a Take Off incident considering the drop tanks are still on!
