DESCRIPTION; Grumman F4F-4 "Wildcat" Fighter (Bureau # 5171), of Fighting Squadron Three (VF-3) at Naval Air Station, Kaneohe, Oahu, on 29 May 1942, with ground crewmen folding the starboard wing. On 4 June 1942, in the Battle of Midway, this plane was flown by Lieutenant Commander John S. Thach, VF-3's Commanding Officer, during the afternoon combat air patrol defending USS Yorktown (CV-5), wherein Thach probably shot down Lieutenant Joichi Tomonaga, leader of the attacking Japanese torpedo planes.

It is painted in McClelland Barclay experimental camouflage design number 8. This aircraft was lost at the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942, while serving with VT-2 on the USS Lexington (CV-2).

This aircraft is the BTD-1, BuNo 4959, which is preserved at the "Wings of Eagles Discovery Center", Elmira-Corning Regional Airport, Elmira, New York (USA). This aircraft had long been in the "Florence Air & Missile Museum" collection until the museum's closing in 1997.

DESCRIPTION; The Lockheed XR6O-1 Constitution (BuNo. 85163) arrives at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida (USA) on 27 September 1949. This aircraft made many trips to NAS Jacksonville. The U.S. Navy accepted two XR6O-1 in 1946/47, 85163 first flew 9 Nov 1946. They were operated by transport squadron VR-44 up to 1955.
