Chaps,

I'm about to give my FwP-149D 'Piggi' a good polish. We've noticed some light surface corrosion on the undersides of the flaps.

Any hints as to the best stuff and technique to fix her up?

If it won't polish off directly you may have to sand with some ultrafine (~1200 grit) paper on a DA sander, then re-polish.

Everyone seems to have their favorite brand of polish. I'm not sure that one is better than any other. They come in many different compounds for different applications. Rolite, Nuvite, Flitz, etc.

Nuvite was suggested for the Waiex we are building. We dabbled around with it a bit on part of the completed tail section, and it looks fantastic.

G'day mate,

I am in Oz also and keep my Cessna 140 polished. I have used Rolit, Flitz and Nuvite. All are good but no dealers for any here in Oz (I bought the last 2 tins of Flitz available in Oz last year before the agent closed up shop). I think Nuvite has a slight edge now, I buy my Nuvite when I visit Oshkosh and have some stored away. This process is getting difficult as the TSA airport security cannot handle seeing tins of this stuff showing up on their x-ray machines when I send my bags through.

PM me and I will let you know the tecniques I use.

Howard

Don't know if its available down under but we found is better (and cheaper) than all the aforementioned products is Dri Wash premium metal polish . ( Just Google Dri Wash). We looked thru everything and settled on this to polish off 40 years of neglect on our DC-3. If not available down under PM me if you like and I can get it for you.
