Not warbird, but weapons related question

For those of you who have seen the movie Avatar, I have a weapons question.
The movie takes place in 2154. So how come they're using what would by then be a 200 year old weapon, the M-60?
(Mrs. Mudge hates it when I point out things like that. )

Star Wars happened centuries ago. Mauser copied the blaster.

And...the M-60 is basically a up-graded WWII MG-42...so it was old tech back in 1957 when it was introduced....

...until they come up with an effective Blaster we are stuck with ancient Chinese secrets...

The item the first storm troopers we ever saw on screen back in seventy-tump were using was the Sterling based 'E-11 Blaster'.

The M-60 and updated MG-42???? Not really. It has parts derived from the MG-42; but, most of the design concept came from the FG-42. It's like they forced the two to mate. A good starting point is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M60_machine_gun there is an image of the prototype M-60. Looks like a clone of the FG-42.

Ma Deuce hits the century mark in 2021. That ought to be a party to remember.
