I believe the only problem that arose for the pilot was that he was flying a REPUBLIC built aircraft so it probably used up all the runway getting stopped just as it did taking off (old joke about REPUBLIC jets and the amount of runway needed, build a runway around the world and REPUBLIC will build an airplane that uses every inch of it).
I do love that old 'box art' style of illustration that was used then, made the story or model kit seem more exotic-

Of course it's going to use all the runway... it's only 200 feet long. But, it's about 9000' wide.:roll:
