Film/Negative scanner 2"x4" & larger

Looking for recommendations for a film/negative scanner for negatives 2' X 3" and larger. I have a box of negatives I need to scan but don't want to go broke buying an expensive scanner. I already have a Canon that scans 35mm so that size is not important.

Oh, and anyone know of a good service that will convert 16mm film to dvd/dvr reasonably?

If it's all 120/220 film (2 1/4 inches wide), an Epson V500 or V600 is probably your best affordable bet. For larger film like 4x5" sheet film you would need something appreciably pricier like the Epson V750M.

I have an Epson V700 which I really like with one exception, the SilverFast software that comes with it. It is pretty much worthless and you need to upgrade to the better version at around 50 bucks extra.
Also support fot SilverFast is a joke. Thay give you a phone number to call which only goes to an answering machine with a promise to get back to you. After 7 days I gave up and emailed them for support. 10 days later I got an answer that had nothing to do with my problem. I then signed up for their forum and asked a question there...the moderator has to approve the post. Mine was denied since it asked for some troubleshooting advice and I was told to either call or email for support..... Also, when they do answer they come across as extremely upset that you had a problem, and that they are perfect so it must be something that the custolmer is doing wrong or their computer equipment. But again, it does very nice scans.

scancafe.com is a good service. They will do video as well as all the film slides for you. Cheaper and faster than buying a scanner and doing it yourself.

Thanks, after looking at prices and what the other responders have said I got to thinking about finding a source to do it instead of buying a scanner.

Edit: just checked scancafe and while they can scan the medium format (120/220) negatives they cannot currently scan B&W negatives, only color.
