A few shots my father took at the CAF airshow held late in 1969 at the Greater Southwest International Airport. Long since gone, GSW was located off Hwy183 between Dallas and Ft. Worth. Only thing left of it these days is a bit of the runway pavement still in place north of 183.

Sorry for the (lack of) quality of these. My dad normally shot Kodachrome, but on this occasion used Ektachrome, and it has faded a lot over the past 40 years. That, and some rough handling of the slides long ago, and they're not exactly in pristine condition.

Anyway, worth the price of admission, I guess ...

Absolutely fantastic stuff 67cougar. Maybe I'm just not very observant but I don't recall seeing the blue and silver stripes on the P-40N before. Anybody know if that was added by the CAF after they acquired it from Dillon or have I just missed it all these years?

I was scanning these photos really hard hoping to catch a glimpse of my family in the background. This was my first airshow when I was just 6yrs old!

I'm guessing the stripes were added by the CAF, as was the tiger mouth. Mike Dillon originally painted it pure red with no markings other than the N-number. AIR PROGRESS magazine featured a 4-part series about the plane's restoration and eventual sale to the CAF in these issues: October, 1968, November, 1968, December, 1968, and January, 1969.

Great photos!
